EMERGE College Success Support

EMERGE support does not end with high school graduation. During the summer before your first year in college, you’ll begin receiving communication from the College Success Team inviting you to join us for several sessions, events, and to connect with us.

The College Success Team’s unofficial slogan is “Unknown Needs Cannot Be Met,” so please reach out to us with questions as you begin and continue your collegiate journey. We are here for you no matter what!

Email us at collegesuccess@emergescholars.org if you need support!

What is SQUADS?

SQUADS launched in 2019 to support our Scholars successfully transition into college. SQUADS helps build connections between incoming EMERGE Scholars attending the same college or university in the same city/region, SQUAD Coordinators and Campus Ambassadors (EMERGE Upperclassmen), and university staff and faculty. Scholars, please ensure you are responsive to your SQUAD Coordinator’s outreach!

“Having the chance to form connections with students from similar backgrounds before entering college, through SQUADS Kick-off is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable aspects of EMERGE. I remember feeling unsure about what to expect from attending a university so far from home, but knowing I was arriving with a small group of people I could rely on was incredibly comforting as I navigated my first year at Boston College. Being able to recognize students on campus and reconnect when we could helped lay the foundation for my success.”

Andrea C, SQUAD Coordinator
Boston College, 2026

“Given my experience transitioning from high school to college, I understand how overwhelming and uncertain that time can feel. That’s why it’s so important for first-year students to attend the SQUADS Kick-off event and stay connected with their SQUAD. The Kick-off event creates and initial sense of belonging and helps students realize they’re not alone in their feelings. It’s an opportunity to meet people, start building friendships, and become familiar with a support system right from the beginning. Staying connected with their SQUAD after that is just as important because it provides ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement throughout the semester. Having a consistent group of peers and a coordinator to turn to can make a huge difference in helping students adjust, gain confidence, and feel more comfortable in a new environment.”

How does the College Success team support us?

Virtual sessions, campus visits, emergency funding for unforeseen expenses, re-enrollment, one-on-one advising, and financial aid application support.

I have an outstanding balance that I can't afford because of housing or tuition fees. Can EMERGE help me pay for school?

EMERGE does not have the budget to support financially with tuition, room, and board fees or any other direct costs. Please sign up for a meeting with your MOCS or email collegesuccess@emergescholars.org  so that the College Success team can talk you through your options.

My school isn't going to help me pay for health insurance. Can EMERGE help me pay for it?

EMERGE considers health insurance to be a direct cost for college. Therefore, we can’t financially support students with that cost. Please sign up for a meeting with your MOCS so that the College Success team can talk you through your options.

I can't afford my flight to college. Can EMERGE help me pay for that?

If it is before June 30th, please reach out to your PM immediately to receive flight scholarship information. If it is after June 30th, yes, this is an indirect cost that EMERGE is able to help with. However, there is a maximum amount we help with and for the student’s flight only. Reach out to your Manager of College Success to receive the emergency funds application immediately.
